Mickey & Barbara Cohen

You don't have to travel far to hear people who grew up in the Rockaways brag about their incredible high school experience learning about the environment from their esteemed teacher Mickey Cohen.

Mickey and his wife Barbara were both school teachers who have dedicated their lives to teaching young people about the environment and to clean up and restoration efforts on Jamaica Bay and the Rockaway shoreline.  

Both have been long time members at American Littoral Society (ALS). Mickey still leads regular tours of the Rockaways as well as far off places like the Galapagos Islands through ALS.

The couple are two incredible people and we are honoring them as "Rockstars" for the month.
